10 Fun Fall Family Activities

August 30, 2014momstownFamily Life, ToddlersNo comments
Fall is my favourite season – I love the colours, the crisp cool air, the ‘back to school’ hustle, and the comfort food that gets made when the temperature starts to drop! Here are 10 family activities to try to make the most of this season!

1. Playing in the leaves

Simple but a classic!  Whether you are out for a walk or raking up the leaves in your yard, kids love to jump in a pile of leaves.  Take your camera and capture their happy faces surrounded by the bright colours of fall.

2. Fall Sensory bins

Sensory bins are a great way to explore the colours and smells of the season with your little one.  Fill your bin with bright colours, different smells and textures – a great way to help them learn while playing!  Here are some ideas on how to fill your sensory bin:

3. Picking apples

4. Fall Scavenger hunt

Another great way to get outside as a family.  Take a walk around your neighbourhood and see who can spot everything on their list first!  (Some ideas for your list: acorns, pinecones, bark, a squirrel, a rake, a pumpkin, a red leaf, an orange leaf, a yellow leaf, a tree with no leaves)

5. Attend a fall festival

There are a few fall festivals happening in Vaughan, click on their links to learn more:

Woodbridge Fall Fair (October 11 – 13th)

8. Go for a cool air picnic

Just because the air is cooler doesn't mean you still can't enjoy a picnic lunch!  Pack up some soups and stews in a thermos and head out to a park!  Don't forget the hot chocolate and marshmallows!

9. Donate

Collect some food donations for your local food bank, help a neighbour rake their leaves or pack up those summer clothes the kids have outgrown and donate them to those in need.

10. Decorate the house for fall

Get the kids to help decorate the house in fall colours!  Grab some pinecones, pick up some fall flowers – bring those beautiful bright fall colours indoors!
