Estate planning is not usually a popular topic of conversation. It is something that most people don’t want to think about, especially once you’ve had a child. The thought of not being there to witness all their milestones, to listen to their stories and to watch them grow up is inconceivable. But, making sure your little one is taken care of if something happened to you is one of the best gifts you can give them.
I lost my father when I was 22 years old. Thankfully, my parents had put an estate plan in place that made it much easier to sort through all the legal and financial issues that occur when someone has passed away. It meant that my siblings, my mom and I could focus on our grief, rather than on paperwork. And, it was a comfort to know that my father had taken the time to make sure that we would be taken care of if something were to happen to him.
Before joining momstown, I worked as a financial planner. I’ve seen firsthand the chaos and stress that can occur when someone dies without a will. It was always the first thing I recommended to my clients, especially any clients with young children.
